Denver, Colorado’s electronic music trio Ping Trace actively seek to connect the dots between tech-house, electronica, and emotionally rich pop music. The lushly constructed music-scapes of Sven and Jeremy Golden intricately back the lovely, expressive vocals of Lynnae Rome. The result is always an intriguing concoction of melody and electronics blended uniquely to make Ping Trace stand out in the crowded dance music field.

Following on the well-received “We Are Human” and “How You Feel” singles for Terraform Records, Ping Trace are bound to make a splash with their latest bold effort. “A Forest” is indeed a cover of the classic track by British alternative favorite The Cure and Ping Trace have deftly translated the song into their sleek sound. Surprisingly enough it was not Ping Trace’s original intention to tackle “A Forest.” Sven was working on a brand new track when it dawned on the trio that a simple change of the chord structure and the addition of the archetypal vocal line yielded The Cure’s signature song. Being big admirers of the band Ping Trace decided to go for it.

“A Forest” lent itself easily to a dark and dubby house music treatment, echoing the melancholy and longing of the original but adapting it for late night dancefloors. On top of the musical arrangement Lynnae Rome adds almost chanteuse-like vocals which she recorded and edited on her own. In the end Ping Trace had produced a classy rendition filled with an enticing drama, working well on both on club systems and home stereos.

A double-dose of remixed versions is also present. Fabr.IQ, a more tech-house oriented project of Ping Trace’s Jeremy and Sven, provides a rework that adds staccato synths and pulsating Italo-lines into the track. Ring modulated percussion and soaring chords enter as the cut progresses creating a potent dancefloor build. Secondly there’s the House Of Peace Mix, an alternate version by Ping Trace. It’s a strange an evocative half-time remix drawing some inspiration from the dubstep genre but without any aggression or lack of subtlety. This treatment is filled with mystery and atmosphere as the space between the beats casts more of a showcase of Lynnae’s fantastic vocal performance. It successfully captures the feeling of the dream that takes place in the lyrics.

Ping Trace have a flurry of activity planned following “A Forest,” including a remix single for “We Are Human,” a collaboration with Swedish electronic music wunderkind Hakan Lidbo, and the recording of the debut Ping Trace album. Denver’s acclaimed Terraform Records is proud to present the latest release by production duo Jeziel Quintela and Jquintel. Brothers Jeziel and Jerameel (JQuintel) are definitely house music producers on a quick rise with over 34 releases and remixes in the last three years for labels such as Nettwerk, Ultra Records, Strictly Rhythm, and Pacha Recordings. The brothers specialize in a satisfying blend of big room house and underground sounds, touching skillfully on tech-house and progressive elements. Jerameel also focuses more on the tech-house side on his own under the name Jaceo. Collectively they’ve recently been enlisted to remix heavy hitters Kaskade and Bad Boy Bill but have still found the time to release this excellent, more underground effort with Terraform.

The lead track on the single is “Tranquille,” which is hardly tranquil, featuring a hypnotic bass-heavy groove geared for the floors, a rhythmic female vocal hit pulsating over firm key pads, and choice splashes of reverb at key points. Hints of melody and teasing breakdowns close the deal making this a prime after hours cut.

Terraform’s Fabr.IQ, which is made up of Jeremy Golden and Sven from flagship act Ping Trace, provide their Sunrise Remix which completely exposes a different side to “Tranquille.” A daring half-time rhythm syncopates underneath the house beats as atmospheric pads and arpeggios build over the original’s warm foundation. It’s an epic production that aims to tell a story to the dance floor within its seven and a half minutes.

As a bonus, the single closes out with “Thick” which finds Jerameel recording solo under his Jaceo moniker. This track is THICK, indeed, with funky tribal percussion taking hold over vocal grunts and stabs that will excite late night club systems. A steady bass line pulls the listener comfortably inside just in time to be pulled apart by a massive, building breakdown. Peak time club action on display.

This first Terraform single of 2011 shows that there’s no stopping the renowned label, now in its sixteenth year of releases. Keep your ears ready for much more action from Terraform Records.

Terraform Records continues their productive relationship with Swedish wunderkind Håkan Lidbo, here in collaboration with Canadian DJ/producer Miles Moore and vocalist Don King. Håkan is well known throughout the electronic music world in no small part due to his almost 250 releases on labels like Paper, Moon Harbour, Poker Flat, and Loaded. He’s previously released on Terraform (2003’s “Thank You Baby”), and most recently remixed Ping Trace’s “We Are Human” to much acclaim. Adding to the caliber of talent, vocalist Don King (real name James Gicho) has been topping the Swedish dance charts as early as 1993 as part of the duo Legacy Of Sound and under the moniker St. James. The two create an exquisite combination revealed in the sublime house track “Everywhere I Go.”

Håkan Lidbo’s original version begins with an atmospheric intro led by gentle percussion as Don King’s spoken lyrics enter the soundscape. Luscious filtered vocals and warm keyboard melodies draw the listener in as the track skillfully builds into a potent late night groove. Ever prolific, Håkan also provides two other versions. The first is the immediately arresting Platypus Mix combining Lidbo’s signature synthetic percussion with the soulful vocals creating a unique electronic music synergy. Meanwhile, Håkan’s Eurodollar Remix delivers a more peak time effort with tight rhythms over huge synth lines.

The deeper view of things comes courtesy of Montreal’s Miles Moore. Founder of the Gotsoul label and current proprietor of the HeadzUp! radio show and distribution company, Moore’s contribution to the Canadian house music scene is vast. Miles Moore introduces two spacious remixes, led by the Step-N-Move Remix. This version meshes the vocal with a sleek deep house backing embellished with a dark synth line, hovering chords, and a slight ‘broken beat’ touch. Next, Moore’s Deeply Obsessed Remix brings the affair even further underground tempting the dance floor with pulsating keys and a clandestine treatment to the vocal. Its lowdown vibe will give chills to lovers of the deepest in dance music.

Denver’s Terraform Records welcomes electronic music trio Ping Trace to the roster with their exceptional single “We Are Human“.  Ping Trace consists of Sven, Lynnae Rome, and Jeremy Golden; two DJs and a vocalist focused on high-quality electronic music-scapes filled with catchy melodies and a lush, chill production style. Their previous, self-released Traces EP received attention and airplay around the globe inspiring Terraform to sign the trio to the label roster. The “We are Human” release was chosen as the key project to re-launch Terraform Records in 2010.  Terraform, recognized for its global tech-house dance records chose this release to signify its return.  To ensure the highest level of production “We are Human” was mixed at Denver’s world-class Side3 Studios. Furthermore, Ping Trace worked with some of the best artists and engineers in music industry.  The effort became a truly global pursuit. Ping Trace was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Håkan Lidbo, who has been referred to as “one of the most prolific tech-house producers on the planet.” Håkan has produced records and remixed numerous tracks since the 1990s. His portfolio includes collaborations with a myriad of respected artists, notably Depeche Mode, with a remix of “Peace” in 2009.  “We are Human” was mastered by Tim Young at Metropolis Group, UK. Young skillfully imbued the tracks with a magical sparkle, capitalizing on the adeptness resulting from 20+ years of practice in the art of mastering audio.  Young has mastered tracks for The Clash, The Smiths, and Massive Attack, to name only a few amazing accomplishments from his career.

The Ping Trace We are Human release is supported with a vital international promotion campaign.  The release is set to launch into the hands of more than 300 a-list tastemakers, DJs, worldwide radio programs, reviewers, international event organizers, and press (print magazines and online sites.)  On release date, promoters will orchestrate a release announcement to over 15,000 fans, DJs and the music industry populace, as well as present the release to numerous record pools.  The release will be posted on over 100 worldwide message boards, as well as presented to multiple relevant bloggers for review.
